Mrs. Vazquez was born in San Antonio, Texas. While growing up, she took art classes at the local Witte Museum and won several student awards in high school. She decided, however, to pursue a science path in college and graduated from Trinity University. She moved to Austin in 1981, earned a Master's degree from the University of Texas, and began a consulting practice in nutrition.

During this period, she returned to her study of art during her free time, taking classes in drawing, design, color theory, pastel and watercolor at Laguna Gloria Art Museum. In 1998, Mrs. Vazquez began painting in oils and started to pursue her art seriously.

She has studied with Don Ward, Joseph Mendez, Ray Vinella, Ann Templeton, John Budicin, John Encinias, Skip Whitcomb, and extensively with Scott Christensen. In January of 2001, with the encouragement of family, teachers, and artist friends, she turned over her consulting practice to an associate and began painting full time. Mrs. Vazquez now paints outdoors throughout central Texas and the Hill Country or in her studio every day.

All of her smaller works are completed on location and she then uses these as reference for her larger studio paintings. She is married and has a teenaged son. As a family they travel regularly to New Mexico and Colorado and Mrs. Vazquez enjoys traveling with artist friends as well to paint and admire the beauty of whatever countryside in which they may find themselves.

"My paintings are a result of my experiences of a subject - be it a landscape, a figure, or a still life. The interplay of light, color and atmosphere all contribute to the moment."
